Helping our hospitals

We have been overwhelmed by offers of support and we would like to thank you. We are aware that people would like to know how they can help their local hospital and their local community and there are many projects happening around Worcestershire. Below you will find information about how you can help our hospitals as well as links to the many opportunities for volunteers across Worcestershire. So we hope that this will help us, to help you, to help us at this difficult time.

You may have seen the government response to volunteering. A new NHS Responders service is looking for four key types of volunteer, from telephone companions, people to collect food and medicine, support with settling patients home and transporting supplies. If this could be you, please go to the GoodSam app here

Thank You

Requirements

To apply and become a volunteer you must be:

  • Over the age of 18 to volunteer in our hospitals
  • Fit and well with no coronavirus symptoms
  • For those in higher-risk groups (including those over 70, those who are pregnant or with underlying medical conditions) you may be able to offer support by telephone in a number of ways.

What areas can you help us with?
Volunteering at our hospitals

Are you interested in volunteering in your local hospital? We are looking for short and long term volunteers. We are recruiting new volunteers across all 3 hospital sites; Worcestershire Royal, Kidderminster Hospital and Alexandra Hospital Redditch.

All volunteers are subject to DBS check and clearance from occupational health before volunteering.

We are looking for volunteers on a short-term basis (perfect for people on furlough or studying or for holiday periods) or those that want to commit to volunteering at the hospital on a long term basis but want to start supporting us in our pandemic response roles.

Whilst we are operating on volunteer restrictions at present, our roles are limited to the above. There is scope with the right volunteers behind us to expand our offering in the near future.

If you are interested in a ward volunteer role long term, we are still taking applications to ensure we have volunteers ready for ward-based roles when volunteer restrictions are eased.

Volunteer roles include:

  • Chaplaincy - we are looking for skilled and dedicated volunteers of every religion to support patients, carers and staff across the trust and help spread the word of the amazing work the chaplaincy team do
  • Wayfinding - helping direct and navigate patients to their appointments and handling a wide range of visitor questions
  • Patient Delivery Service – collecting small gifts and cards to deliver to wards from family members to let loved ones on wards know they are cared for
  • Christmas Delivery Service - throughout Christmas we plan to extend the availability of volunteers to help support loved ones bringing in festive goodies for their loved ones to help brighten their stay. If you want to help the community during Christmas but cannot commit to supporting the service long term, we would really like to hear from you!

We do not have any opportunities currently but we will take applications and contact people when something suitable becomes available. We run Worcestershire’s community hospitals, neighbourhood teams and community nursing services, working in partnership with other teams and organisations to keep people well at home for as long as possible. As the main providers of mental health and learning disability services in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, we provide services for people of all ages, across a range of settings, experiencing both physical and/or mental health conditions. We are also a Global Digital Exemplar, and are transforming the way digital and technology supports patients and staff throughout the Trust.
